The Theatrical “Library Night 2019” Took Place on 20 April in the Russian State Art Library

Fascinating events awaited the guests of Library Night: excursions and exhibitions, interactive programmes and concerts, the viewing of books from RSAL’s collections, a traditional book bazaar, film screenings, and a retro-fashion show.

Visitors enjoyed popular excursions around the building through ‘Get to Know RSAL!’ and the closed book depository through ‘RSAL’s Rare Books,’ plus they had the extraordinary opportunity to view rare books, to stroll along the old Petrovsky Lines street, and learn about its theatrical life of a century ago.

At the opening, guests of Library Night saw the book And Stanislavsky Was Coming Toward Me…: Theatre Memoirs and Diaries, they were able to become acquainted with unique editions of memoirs of famous directors, actors, and theatre performers from RSAL’s collections.

 

The unusual children's book in postcards Poems for Little Sunbeams and Moonbeams was presented by the famous postcard collector and author Arsen Melitonyan and illustrator Natalia Varlamova. 

The famous feature film Children of Paradise (dir. Marcel Carné, 1945), dedicated to the theatrical life of Paris in the 1920-1930s, aroused interest among young viewers.

The “Russian Romances and Songs about Love” concert by soloists of the Canta international Italian vocal school in Moscow took place.

By popular demand of the audience, students of the Yekaterinburg State Theatre Institute, future puppet masters created a new presentation—the plastic-musical history “Where Dolls Are So Similar to People ...”.

The Library Night programme concluded with the retro-fashion show “Heroines of Soviet Plays 1930–1960s” by the one-of-a-kind theatre ‘Retro-Image.’
