On 30 March, at RSAL Vasily Nemirovich-Danchenko’s Confessions of a Woman Was Presented

Date: 20.04.2021

The novel, Confessions of a Woman,by Vasily Nemirovich-Danchenko was presented by Anna Kapustyuk, editor-in-chief of the Khudozhestvennaya Literatura publishing house.

Vasily Nemirovich-Danchenko is the elder brother of one of the founders of the Moscow Art Theatre Vladimir Nemirovich-Danchenko. During Vasily’s lifetime, he became famous as a war correspondent, journalist, and author of bestsellers. Several generations of Russian readers grew up on his books.

The novel, Confessions of a Woman, was written at the beginning of the 20th century, and by 1907, had been reprinted five times. Following the emigration of the author after the revolution, his books were withdrawn from libraries and his name forgotten.

Anna Kapustyuk discussed how by chance several years ago she heard the author’s name, who was then unknown to her. In studying his work, she was led to the novel Confessions of a Woman. In 2020, the Khudozhestvennaya Literatura publishing house re-released it.

The book is especially valuable for the two rare photographs of the brothers Vasily and Vladimir that were provided for the modern edition by Vasily Mikhailovich Nemirovich-Danchenko, the author’s grandson.
